Ben Saunders Polar Expedition:

Recently I attended a talk by a truly inspiring man, Ben Saunders. He told a group of students and their teachers all about his expeditions to the North Pole. He enthralled us all by talking about his near misses with polar bears and all about the amazing journey he endured just to be able to say he'd been to the north pole. Here are some of his fascinating pictures:-

One the first expedition, as the helicopter left, Ben realised what he had let himself in for!!!!!

Here is a picture of the helicopter used in the North Pole expedition in 2003

Ben battling against the gruelling elements

A suit designed for Ben that kept him perfectly dry and warm when he had to swim through the water when the ice had melted.

This picture shows just how bad the condition of the ice was on Ben's expedition in 2004. Experts are saying that it is detriorating more and more each year.

Read all about Ben's expiditions and see loads more of his amazing photos on his website- Ben Saunders

The Bostcastle Floods were a major disaster that rocked the beautiful Cornish village of Boscastle. The river that normally just trickled gently through the village beacme a raging surge of water that completely ruined the village. These pictures below show the extent of the damage caused in normally such a peacful place.

This birdseye view of the village shows just how badly the river took control, and you can see why residents were stranded.

Here you can see just how high and fast the river became

This picture shows the power of the river as it forced cars into the sides of the old cottages.

After the waters had died down the extent of the damage was even more upsetting

Thanks to a group of very special people amazingly no-one died.

Some of these people were rewarded greatly as it says in this story:- Flood airmen get bravery awards

welcome to my blog

hey my name is stace. this is my first assignment in geography- to create a blog.
now my first piece of work is to gather some info on the recent hurricane katrina:-

here is a picture of katrina

click here for a TIMELINE: of the events Hurricane Katrina.

Katrina caused death and destruction beyond anyones estimation. This has left parts of America as disaster zones, as it shows below:-

In Biloxi, the Mississippi town that took the full brunt of the category four storm, Cheryll Taylor picks her way through debris to collect her cats from her battered home.

More than two weeks after Hurricane Katrina demolished parts of the US Gulf Coast, survivors are returning to see what remains of their homes.

They returned despite warnings of health risks from the filthy flood waters. Dwayne Glass and Chris Glass use a boat to salvage items from their mother's house.
